ENUGU -  FIFTY-THREE new babies have been delivered by flood victims in the various refugee camps in Idah and Uzo-Uwani local government area of Kogi and Enugu States respectively within the last three weeks, Chairman of Ibaji local government area of Kogi State, Mr. Dave Ogwu, disclosed this yesterday.
Ogwu, whose riverine council had been completely submerged by the flood which had forced the inhabitants into refugee camps, expressed regrets that 20 persons have so far died in the refugee camps due to illness caused by poor hygiene and old age, saying unless the condition of the camps were urgently improved upon the mortality rate could increase.
The council chairman told Vanguard on telephone that the camps where the flood victims from his council are residing were not conducive for human habitation but since they had no alternative they have remained there, adding that apart from food shortage, drugs were not readily available for the sick ones.
He said that his council had deployed a lot of resources to take care of majority of the victims in Idah and its environs just as those in Enugu State had received a little assistance from the council.
