In his words: “If we are given adequate funding, the police will
perform perfectly well. What we lack is enough funding. We can work,
especially in the area of barracks’ rehabilitation, our men are on
ground to perform direct labour. And you know this will save cost.”
Explaining the reason behind the building of the transit camp, the police boss said each time police retirees and their next of kin come to the Force Headquarters to collect their entitlements, they were always faced with the accommodation problem.
Explaining the reason behind the building of the transit camp, the police boss said each time police retirees and their next of kin come to the Force Headquarters to collect their entitlements, they were always faced with the accommodation problem.
“You and I know that one of the major problems facing this city is
accommodation. Police retirees as well as their next of kin are not left
out in this trouble. Some sleep in the primary school classrooms facing
the Force Headquarters. Some even sleep under the stair cases and this
is highly dehumanising.
“After serving this country or loosing one’s relative, to collect
entitlements would now become a big problem. Hence the need for this
transit camp for the accommodation of these set of people and other
officers and rank and file, who have one or two things doing here. This
place will serve as a transit camp where they would stay and be
comfortable for the short period of their stay in Abuja,” the IGP said.
Abubakar said as part of efforts of the police management team to ensure that the retirees or next of kin have little problem in getting their entitlement, the police high command had directed the Zonal Police offices to pay their entitlements rather than coming to Abuja at all times.

The police boss, who did not disclose the actual cost of the one-storey
building, therefore called for the full maintenance of the building
and ensure that the purpose of which it was erected is being fully
utilised.
