Edo State September 10 Guber Election Postponed by Two Weeks

Following intense pressure from security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission will postpone the Edo State governorship election by two weeks.

The election had earlier been scheduled for Saturday September 10, 2016.

Insider source confirmed that the election may now hold in two weeks

There has been apprehension if the election will go ahead, but a reliable source within the INEC confirmed that the election has been postponed.

Investigations further revealed that the police pulled out it’s personnel while the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) refused to deployed Corps members for the Saturday exercise.

The source said that it appears impossible for INEC to deploy staff and material.

He said, “There is no security to escort them simply because they are unavailable. The security agencies are going to formally communicate their security advise to us in a short while

“We shall meet to take a decision. At the moment it is no longer feasible to deploy and conduct the elections

NYSC has advised us that many parents have called to withdraw their children from election duty. Since they form the bulk of election duty personnel, their withdrawal is a major challenge.”

Four Nigerian University Students Jailed For Cult Activities

Four undergraduate UNILAG students, identified as Raheem Yusuf , 21 , Adedoyin Adeyemi Abraham , 24, Olanrewaju Idowu, 36 , and Safraini Oluyemi Peters, 24 , we're sent to jail by a magistrate court on the accusation of there alleged involvement in cult activities within the school premises .

The students were arrested by the state police command for allegedly being members of a secret cult known as Aloral Bucania.The police during the arraignment of the students yesterday the police informed the court that on the 4th of August at about 9am in Room 318 , Biobaku Hall of residence in the institution , the suspects had hacked out plans to carry out some cult activities that would have caused the breach of public peace .

Acting on a tipoff, the students were arrested by the police and arraigned on a two count charge bordering on conspiracy to cause a breach of public peace and belonging to an unlawful and secret society .

They were docked before Chief Magistrate Oluwayemisi Adelaja on Charge No : D/ 45 / 2016. When the charges were read , they all pleaded not guilty . The Chief Magistrate , Oluwayemisi Adelaja granted the defendants N 200 , 000 bail with two sureties each in the like sum.

She ruled that the sureties must possess evidence of three years ’ tax payment to the Lagos State government, affidavit of livelihood and be residents of the state . She ruled that the students be remanded in prison custody until their bail conditions have been met .

The case was adjourned till September 26th for trial

Fuel Price Hike Can't Be Stopped: IPMAN

The much speculation of possible increase in price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol, may not be considered mere, as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Thursday warned of threat to product availability in the country, as it is gripped with series of challenges confronting the petroleum sector.

This came as expert blamed marketers of insensitivity to price moderation when government placed a cap on petrol price in May.

But, other operators have argued that the price of petrol is driven by laws of economies, which cannot be altered for a long time, and as such is expected to increase giving the current challenges of FOREX and others.

Speaking to Vanguard, National President, IPMAN, Mr. Chinedu Okoronkwo, stated that flexible way to assessing FOREX has been given rather than black market dependence for the purpose of importing critical items to the country.

He said, “But I will advice for total deregulation. The price moderation, which is the cap placed is not healthy for the petroleum industry to grow.

“There are people who have the FOREX to bring product and sell. By so doing, FOREX will crash. But when the industry is over protected like ours, the current challenges will be unending. The market force should drive the price.”

He stressed that, “If the refineries are working to a good capacity like 70 percent, the product will not be less than N130 per litre. We should focus on making the refineries work. Because by the time you keep on importing, FOREX challenges will keep on re-occurring and there would no head way.

Jealous Woman Pours Acid On Couple

A jealous woman allegedly poured a corrosive substance believed to be acid on couple in Kano.

According to the story, Amina Moses was in bed with her husband when the woman sneaked into their room and emptied the lethal substance on her and her husband. Amina almost lost her face while her husband suffered burns in the chest.

Chemist in Lagos almost Lynched For Blasphemy by Hausa Youths

There was confusion on Sunday in the Ketu area of Lagos State after some Hausa youths seized a chemist, identified as Emmanuel Emeka.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Emeka would have been lynched but for the intervention of policemen from the Ketu Police Division who quickly brought the situation under control.

A source told our correspondent that the victim had written a blasphemous word on a magazine, which triggered the anger of the youths.

The source said the police had already taken custody of the victim to save his life.

He added that the Hausa youths mobilised to destroy the victim’s shop, but were prevented by the policemen, who were deployed in the area.

He said, “It happened around 9pm on Sunday. The issue could have led to a bloody fight between Christians and Muslims in Ketu, but for the police.

President Buhari Arrives Edo State To Campaign For APC Guberntorial Candidate (Obaseki)
